Herbol Protector Corrosion Resistant Synthetic Primer/Finish

Herbol Protector is a Corrosion Resistant Synthetic Primer/Finish for ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates, with outstanding corrosion resistance.





Synthetic, satin metallic paint, one pot system, top quality

Synthetic primer, intermediate and finishing coat for ferrous and non-ferrous, based on a special alkyd resin combination and special fillers, for indoor and outdoor use

Note: yellowing

Any alkyd-based paint will, when applied indoors, in white and pastel shades, under the influence of heat and the lack of direct daylight yellowing.

EU limit value for this product (cat A/i): 600g /L (2007) / 500g /L (2010). This product contains max. 490 g/L VOC.

Processing data


Brush, roller and spray (also airless)

Processing conditions

Apply at least 5 °C for substrate and air temperature during and after the processing.

Attention: Avoid direct sunlight, rain, mist, dew and strong wind.

Avoid condensation during morning and evening hour

Theoretical return

Brush – roller: apply undiluted: approx. 7 m²/l or approx. 140 ml/m²

• Apply at least 100-120 µm dry film thickness on zinc and galvanized substrates.

• Apply at least 120 µm dry film thickness on iron and steel.

• Generally 3 coats (primer coat, intermediate coat and top coat) are recommended.

Drying times (at 23°C and 50% RH)

Dust-dry: after approx. 3 hours – Tack-free: after approx. 12 hours

Can be painted over: after approx. 24 hours.– Full curing after a few days

Cleaning the tools

Herbol-KUNSTHARZ-VERDÜNNUNG V40 or white spirit

Spray data airless

Dilution: undiluted

Pressure: approx. 140 to 180 bar, depending on the flow rate

Nozzle: from 0.013 inch.

Note: do not spray metallic colors airless

Ensure adequate ventilation during and after application.

In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

When working on paint layers such as sanding, welding, burning, etc., hazardous dust particles and/or vapors are released. Work in a well-ventilated area. Usage

appropriate self-protection equipment when necessary.

System structure

All paintwork and necessary pre-treatments must be applied to the object adapted: ie they must be adapted to the condition, the performance requirements and the conditions to which they are exposed.

Substrate preparation


Iron and Steel

Derust the surfaces well. Remove dirt and degrease.

Zinc, paintable hard plastics

Sand the surfaces matt with an abrasive sponge (Scotch-Brite) and slightly ammoniacal water (10% strength). + a little detergent. Good rinse with water.


Degrease very thoroughly with nitro thinner and sand with scouring pad (nylon or perlon).


Treat the surfaces with a diluted hydrochloric acid solution (10% strength) then sand with a perlon fleece. Rinse well with water.

Paint system ***

• Primer: Herbol PROTECTOR.

• Intermediate layer: Herbol PROTECTOR.

• Finish: Herbol-PROTECTOR.

• Streaking is characteristic of metallic colours.

• Treat heavily loaded surfaces with 2-component products.
